Probably not applicable, but one other thing that can cause
this to happen is not enough disk space available for MAX
to create its temporary file on launch.

Subject: usb interface problems

I had a few problems with my b&w g3, MOTU usb midi interface, usb keyboard
and usb trackball. Occasionally one of the three usb devices would lock up.
I would leave my setup unattended during normal operation (as a show control
setup) and when I'd come back the keyboard or trackball wouldn't work. My
quick fix was to unplug and re-plug the device, and then it would work
again. Perhaps this problem was caused by an overload of USB to/from the
interface? The midi interface specifically states 12 Mbits, perhaps the g3
provides less? I'm not sure. Not too much of a problem in my specific
situation, but I could see this being a real problem in the future.

Subject: Midi clock, MMC

here's a stupid question, but it doesn't seem to be answered in the manual
or the help files...
I just bought an e-mu launchpad at a great discount off their website. it
gives me those faders I want so badly for MSP and that just don't come
standard on my powerbook. however, it also comes with capability to send
midi clock and midi machine control info...which I know nothing about and
MAX is no help. MAX recieves the MMC commands and the Sequencer control
commands, but no objects seem to exist to deal with it. Midi clock does
nothing, as near as I can tell. help? i could certainly write my own
objects to parse the foreign midi, but do I really have to?

Shortly after MSP was released, I gave IRCAM an "FTS Compatibility
library" that implements most of the functions and limitations
of FTS in MSP. As far as I'm concerned, it's up to the person
writing the destination environment to ensure compatibility with
the source environment. If the developers of jMax wish to
provide a similar "MSP Compatibility Mode" it is certainly
an opportunity open to them. As part of a distribution agreement,
I provided the MSP source code to IRCAM, so that could be of
some help in this area.

tcin is an object abandoned during the development of Max 3.0,
but for some reason I left it in the program and it was at
some point discovered by a monkey hired by a group of Max
enthusiasts that must have typed all possible combinations of object
names into an object box. So, given that it is not supposed to exist
and may not really work, I am not going to encourage anyone to use it.

It is however, very similar to the xtcin object written by
Steve Ellison. I believe there is a FAT version of that object around
somewhere, maybe the IRCAM FTP server?

the same room
