I don't know if this is an option for you, but the source code for movie
& co. is available. I modified a half-dozen statements to build a variant
that would position itself with the window frame just outside the visible
bounds of a 640x480 screen.

To avoid misunderstandings: no, I am not offering to make the
modifications myself. [I can do contract development, but I can't afford
to do it for a fee that most Maxers could afford]-:

Antiorp's nato software will probably allow you to do what you want and
more. I just wish she/he/it/they could provide some demos that get by
with a little less bandwidth. And heaven knows how her/his/its/their
pricing schedule applies to folks with hotmail accounts.

Dominic -

I had the same problem with OS 8.1 on my 8600. Turned out the Sytem file
itself was corrupted. Download TechTool if you haven't already got it - it
reports on system integrity (up to at least OS 8.5). I started up from
CDROM and just copied the System file across from my backup boot zip. (more
risky than a full system reinstall but a darn sight quicker...).

Is there a way of checking that a proposed code isn't already registered
for something else? (of course you can't prevent someone else subsequently
registering it unless you do so yourself which, I assume, costs...)

I had exactly the same problem on my G3 Wallstreet PowerBook some weeks
ago. After reinstalling the system, those troubles were gone.

Hope that helps,

I made adac~ 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
and use the Direct I/O MSP driver with my Digidesign 882/20 interface. Works
fine.

My experience has been better than yours: my

At Ircam most of our multichannel pieces and installations make a great use
of Spat (a famous Surround perceptual approach developped at Ircam by Jean
Marc Jot and al.) running on MSP (using the Korg 1212) or jMax. This
package is now widely used in Forum Ircam. You can also get it. Check
www.ircam.fr/forumnet.

The solution is to reinstall your system. Sorry for the bad news.

Well, it's true that the mtr object accepts MIDI files as a type
to read. But there's no actual MIDI file reading code in the mtr
object. I'm sorry if you've been lead to believe otherwise. I
guess it's rather cruel that it allows you to select these files.
I'll fix it so it doesn't.

Subject: the Creator and you

The ApplicationInstaller program used to build standalone
Max application contains an entry for Creator. It's right
there at the top of the dialog. This field defaults
to max2, but can be changed to anything your heart desires
(as long as such desire can be expressed in four characters).

No need to use ResEdit. The reason it defaults to max2 is
that this allows your application to have an Max-like icon, since
icons from the MaxPlay application are going to be included by
default.

It occurs to me that this field could default to something else
and, in the absence of additional iconic material, AppIns
could include some beautiful new icons, distinctive from
those that grace the Max application itself. This could
certainly cut down on the confusion caused by the way it works
now, and I'm all for that. However, if anyone likes the way
it works now, please speak up.

Subject: object to check existence of floppy disk?

Hello. I was wondering if anybody has developed or knows of an external or
an abstraction to check if a specific floppy disk has been inserted by the
user.

Any ideas on how to create such an abstraction? I've tried using a dummy
coll file in the floppy disk, which I then tried to read with a coll
object to check if the disk had been inserted. The problem is that, if
coll doesn't find the file, it asks the user to locate it. Instead, I was
looking for an object that, for instance, would output bang in case of a
file-not-found situation (or disk-not-found situation if such a thing
exists), so I could use it in conjuction with the Swinnen's alert object
to ask the user to insert the disk.

Thanks!

Alejandro

Registering a creator name with Apple is free. I've done it before.
I don't have the URL, but I'm sure you can find it at Apple Developer

hi all,

does anyone in the uk have an unwanted QuikCam (or similar) with a serial
connector (to connect to a pre-bronze Powerbook), or know of anyone who has one?
or know where there's one laying around?

alternatively, can anyone tell me how to get video into a powerbook, to use as a
controller for max? is there a PCMIA card available, and how much would one

cost?

this may be of interest, especially to people interested in the 'net and sound....

there's a piece of (free) software called <earshot> which is being developed by
a couple of guys in the uk. it basically trawls the net for audio files,
downloads them and plays up to 9 of them at any one time. you can graphically
change the pitch and speed of the samples, and change the direction of play. the
idea being to explore the aural space that is the internet. the interface is
somewhat reminiscent of nebula24 (antiorp) though not as versatile!
download, and more on the rationale behind the programme at:

There are PCMCIA Cards available that take a composite video signal
and work very well. I have seen them inn opperation, but dont have a
name or a price, although I dont think they were really expensive.
Then you could use any camera.

Hi David,

Are you looking at supporting the DigiDesign 001 interface? I note
it doesn't support TDM plugins, so does that mean it doesn't use DAE,
or Direct I/O, and does that mean it could be some time before it is
supported by MSP?

I found this web site from a guy who maintains a database of all known (to
him) Mac file Type/Creator codes:

http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Bay/5677

According to Apple's "Creator Code Registration" page
(http://devworld.apple.com/dev/cftype/find.html), "max2" is "free for you to
use".

Better snap it up David, before someone else does and then attempts

Great idea. However, in an attempt to stave off the ream of
questions as to why "my app opens up joe's app that I downloaded
last week", how about a randomly generated default?
