I believe SoundEffects (freeware) can handle multiple
channels AIFF's very well. Only limitation is RAM.

Check it out at:

http://SunSITE.univie.ac.at/pub/sound/csound/utilities/mac/sndfx.hqx

Macromedia's SoundEdit 16 will also work great, check it at:

http://www.macromedia.com/software/sound/

And of course the workhorse of Sound Editors, Peak at:

Peter Castine wondered:

Tom Erbe's SoundHack (shareware) won't provide the same
graphical interfaces, but it is a superb application:

Best of luck,

well, SoundHack splits multichannel-Aiff-Soundfiles into Monochannels, if
this is what you are lookin for. Thats at least the way I work with
sfrecord~ and PT.
