Subject: timeout

i'm not sure wether i'm having trouble or wether i'm just confused. i'm
working with a laser triggering matrix hooked up via an i-cube to samplers
and this beautiful MIDI'd up Doremi Labs V1 video device. i need to send
the V1 timecode from Max to select clips for playback from its hard drive.

now...... how the **** do i get Max to send MIDI time code to an external
device? from what i've gleaned from the Max manuals, using apple midi
manager i can send MTC to external devices but not using OMS. So, i tried
to switch Max over to MIDI manager, reloaded extensions, changed sets etc.,
but Max won't let me change over, the 'MIDI set up' option becomes greyed
out.

my main questions are:-
How do i get Max to send MTC to external devices using OMS? or
How do i change Max to use MIDI manager?
Are there any externals i could use instead of timeout?
Anybody got any other suggestions?

i haven't used timecode before so please speak to me simply!

show date is 22-5-99 @ the Bluecoat, Liverpool, UK. British (or any)
Maxers, it would be great to see you there!!

Thanks all

Paul Doornbusch, I'm interested in your updated metro1, too. Perhaps you
have it somewhere others could download it? Or would you mind Marcel
passing it on?

Subject: groove~

Greetings all:
I have a question regarding groove~. I am currently trying to set up an
installation using 8 channels of audio. Without going into the details, I
am sampling various parts of the same aiff file loaded into buffer~;
different parts being played at the same time out different channels. For
each sampling I have a 1 sec fadein and fadeout, but I've noticed,
especially since all my samples are of different lengths, that when one
sample fades out, all the samples fadeout. Same with fadein. Any
suggestions on how to get around this? sfplay~ might be an option, but up
to 20 samples are played at a time, and my hard disk isn't happy about
reading 20 files at the same time.

Thanks in advance for any input.
Cheers,

My MAX (v.3.5.9-6) has suddenly decided that it can't find a lot of objects
anymore: for example, running Max Tutorial 35, it reports the following
error: 'funbuff: no such object' (and the same for split and flush. msp
doesn't seem to find any audio objects, although the library appears to be
intact and in the MAX folder. Anyone know what might have happened?

In order to solve this problem, I may have to re-install MAX. I would like
to avoid this, given the horror stories which have been coming through this
list. Has anyone actually successfully de-authorised an installed MAX?
Does the authorisation count get incremented again if I de-install?

I apologise if you get this message twice: I'm also posting it to the OpCode
list.

You probably don't need to do a re-install. And you probably definitely
don't need to de-authorize/re-authorize. Did you check the MAX
Preferences, which lists the search paths for the various folders?

After verifying that the objects in question are actually still on
your hard drive, check the MAX Preferences file paths, and then make
sure that you haven't renamed any folders. For example, if all of
your objects used to be in a folder name "max-externals", and you
change the name, then you must also change the name of the folder
in the MAX Preferences. Likewise if you move the objects to
different folders during some sort of reorganization.

To interested NY area Max users: (all others sorry for the extra mail!!)

        First-in-a-long-time..

Max (and MSP) Users Group meeting

        Where:
        Harvestworks/Studio PASS
        596 Broadway, Suite 602
        (Houston near Broadway)
        tel. 212.431.1130

        When: June 9th (7-9pm)

We would like to have this be an opportunity for some face-to-face
exchanges of ideas both technical and aesthetic and a chance to see
eachother's works-in-progress, etc. The meeting is being hosted by myself
and Eric Singer who will be showing off something (his new video-in object
I think..).

If you are interested in attending and especially if you would like to
present your work.. please flood my personal mailbox with a subject line
"Max Users Group" rather than writing to Harvestworks (gets to me faster..)

        Thanks,

re my problem with not finding objects: I found the culprit. Space Saver
had cunningly compressed the Max program files whilst I wasn't looking.
Everything is back to normal...
