Well - a couple of months ago my keydisk crashed in a way David Z.
described (funny enough during installation - desinstallation with sys
8.1 on another machine). Opcode promised to replace it asap through an
address in US, so that I could get it quick. Still nothing! So I have to
put in the old keydisk everytime I want to use max. I am scared to take it
on the road of course in case it gets damaged _ that would be the end of
my maxing for a while. But I haven't heard from Opcode these last weeks,
despite several urgent mails. Moreover, don't tell me there aren't
solutions more interesting & intelligent, in these days of networked
intelligence. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr Gz-

Anyone here using OS 8.5? with MAX/MSP? Any success/failures?

My experience with 8.5 follows:

For some reason, my G3 desktop machine now gives me the 'Your computer
wasn't shut down properly' message about 75% of the time (when I KNOW I
shut it down). My G3 all-in-one has some serious problems where I get a
b-tree problems, invalid nodes etc. that the Apple Disk repair utility
cannot repair (instead it quits due to an 'internal' error). I've
re-formatted the drive twice, and after a day it comes back. One of my
iMacs refused to boot when I first installed 8.5, I had to zap the PRAM 3
times and force it to boot from CD, after that it was fine. The other two
iMacs have been working like a charm. Go figure. I'm sure I won't be
installing 8.5 on my 7100. I think I'll stick to 7.6.1 and MkLinux. To top
it all off, my OS now takes about 20 MB of ram (total bloatware crap) with
the Micr$oft stuff, 16MB with the basics needed for AudioDesk.

For those of you who are debating upgrading, I would say wait for 8.5.1. I
think there will be a few serious bug fixes there.

Installing Linux is like sex... the first time is work, not so fun, and you
will crash in a few seconds. Once you get going though, you get better and
better. You'll soon have no desire for Abstinence95.

Anyone else using 8.5? I was just thinking about making the
switch...

What disk drivers are you using? I lost my boot disk after installing 8.5.
The disk had previously formatted with the APS Charismac utility. After
reformatting with Apple's DiskSetup and installing the Apple drivers it
has been stable.
