Subject: MSP Crackle on an 7600

I'm running MSP on a 7600 for a few days but am experiencing a lot of
trouble with crackle.
When I switch DSP on 9 times out of 10 there is horrible crackle. 1 time
out of 10 I get a clean signal. The nature of the crackle changes -
sometimes it's rhythmic, sometimes constant, sometimes loud, sometimes
I'm using sound manager.
The CD player is fine so the wiring is not the problem.
Any idea what may be the cause of this intermittent fault ?

Subject: snd error - need help!

I am getting the error message 'no snd resource' or 'no snd
resource' to the load message in the 'snd' object.
I have samples in the same folder as the patch, but snd does not find
them or recognise them.
What is going on?
I've noticed from other patches that use samples that they sometimes
have the samples all bundled up into a single resource file.
I did not think this was necessary though.
If it is, could someone please send me a res' file maker? (and
Post to
Thanks in anticipation.

this is an extremely annoying feature of the g3/sys8.x combo. a workaround
is mentioned in (of all places) the msp documentation. you've got to quit
max. then go to monitors and sound and set input to none. then relaunch
max. of course, popping in a cd will cause it to play (unless this feature
is disabled in the quicktime options control panel), and, in fact, play
through. in that case, start all over again: quit max, etc.

two other g3 gripes: the power supply doesn't switch voltages automatically
(welcome to europe: bang! oops) and they forgot to put in a paper clip
hole on the zip drive!! (if a disk is stuck, you have to open up the box and
press the button on the drive).

the zip-hole goof-up really scares me. i mean, you've got zillions of bytes
whizzing through your machine, we all know that one missing semicolon
can wreak havoc in the code, and these folks forgot to drill a hole on the
front panel?! makes you wonder what kind of other mistakes are lurking.

damn, that always impressed the girls when i whipped out my paper clip.
