Due to an ISP outage this week I didn't receive the Max Digests dated June
22-24. Would someone be so kind as to e-mail them to me?

But possibly people would like a report of what you discover. A few
people, myself included, are doing upgrades and will be interested to
hear about problems. With people startint ot use msp this is a very
relevant area, IMHO, as indicated by several recent posts.

Subject: Urgent Problems with MSP!

An urgent and serios problem!

Hi all folks with msp-experience!!

I just in the middle of an huge sound-park-installation with 8 BIG
loudspeakers placed in the nature of an huge park / river in Sweden.

(www.lahomsljudpark.com if any of you are interested)

I have made a quite huge patch with max/msp that are doing the folowing:

* First off all you write into a list, which will contain the
information of which folder you are working with. (I have different
aiff-soundfiles in different folders)=A8

The list could look like this:
1, 2
2, 5
3, 15
4, 1
This means that first of all the sounds in folder B(2) will be played
and then sounds from folder E(5) and then from folder O(15)...

* Then you read the list from the begining and send the =94foldernumber=94
to an object which will select the right folder with the
=94folder-object=94.=20

(Now you know which folder you are gonna work with.)

* Opens 1 sound from that folder and preolad around 30-50 sounds into an
sflist~

* Random a number within the list and send the number to sfplay~
(which will play the defined aiff-soundfile)

There are 8 channels of sound that will play from the same list with
different pauses between them, so when the first finished channel is, it
sends the next folder-message.

* When all number in the list is played (controlled by the =94URN-object=94=
)
it reads the list of =94folder-order=94 and take the next number in the
list.=20

When it does that and starts to open a new sound with new preloaded
cue=B4s, it will not close the other files, not the present file or the
preoladed ones. The result is that efter 8-10 folders there is around
300 files open and finder starts to behave strange, you can=B4t open any
file and you can=B4t save anything and you can=B4t play any files because=
 it
didn=B4t find the files it said...

I have tried to send the =94fclose=94-message to sfplay~ and i even tryed=
 to
send the =94clear=94-message to both sflist~ and sfplay~. Nothing happens=
,
the files are still present and refuse to close. I =B4ve tryed to send th=
e
=94close=94-message to the sflist~ which you can find in the msp-manual b=
ut
THEN the reportwindow says that it doesn=B4t understand that massage...

NOW TO MY PROBLEM!!!

My problem is that i can=B4t close the files when i have played them...

How do i do that!!!

The situation now is very critical cause the park is open and people,
turists has allready arrived, now we are fused to run this soundpark on
an ADAT and we must fix this problem this very day!!!!!!!!

I would be very greatful if there is any person that have experience
with longtime-running on msp conncted with opening / playing soundfiles.
We hope that our installation will last for three months but now the
computer crashes after 5 minutes or 2 hours.

Best Regards from=20

You are right - sorry for that. Now the complete patch.
To separate variables, you have to use backslash-comma \,
