I wonder whether Roland can provide a driver for their SCP-55B PCMCIA card.
I
believe the SCP-55 has been in production for about three years.

When I was at the NAMM show, at Apple's booth I saw a PB G3 with
a large adapter and cable coming out of the expansion slot, going
directly to a rack of DigiDesign Audio stuff. I'm not sure
exactly what was going on (I had other reasons for being at the
show), but it was some type of PCI interface to the DigiDesign
cards, doing digital audio. I'm sure you can get info from
Digidesign...

Sorry this isn't more detailed...

Hi,

I'm new to this list, and was wondering if a FAQ is available.

I'm specifically interested to know about MAX users' experience with
non-OMS MIDI patchbays...whether any are recommended and what degree of
success has been achieved with their use.

Thanks for your help.

Fortunately, there is the guiding light from Washington to help us choose
correctly.
(Washington State, that is, where there's an attorney in Redmond for every
onion in Walla Walla.)

Just consider the recent chain of events:
1) David Z. releases MSP, dramatically increasing unauthorized appearances
of the ascii string "MS" on this list.
2) The server of this list is shut down by a severe ice storm.
3) The owner of the intellectual property "4d 53" gets a pie in the face in
Brussels, making it personal.
4) A severe rain storm almost washes David's home into the sea.

Good thing there are still bugs in MSWeather!

now that i'm actually using the soundout port on my powerbook 5300cs with
MSP,
 i've noticed a
"disk spin down" sound that comes through the sound output every few
minutes.
 The sound also
comes from the powerbook itself. I've searched the various mac user group
 archives for this problem
with no luck. Any other powerbook users here experience this evil behavior?
If
 so, any fixes?

hey, no fair! their web site still says "macos coming soon!" and they have
been saying this all along! i am going to write them a letter informing
them of my interest in the card - perhaps anyone else interested in it
should do the same (!)

>Does anyone know about any other audio PC-Cards for the PB3400?

there is a card made by the french company digigram (www.digigram.com) that
makes an input card... definitely aimed at the pro market, good-quality a/d
converters and spdif in for... $1700...! oof. some of us asked them to make
a card without the expensive converters - just spdif in and out on a pcmcia
card at a reasonable price - that's all we need - ! it would make a big
difference in what i can do with this great little box.

best regards,
jhno

ps - all you mac users, keep pressure on the industry to maintain support
for this platform... i agree with metlay that the mac is still quite
established among music users (i know of no professional musician using a
pc), but there are tons of tweakers and normal people out there with wintel
boxes and it is hard for companies to resist the size of that market...

Subject: image transparency....

I have been experimenting around with moving multiple picts and drawing
ovals, lines, rectangles, etc. at the same time. Unfortunately, when the
picts overlap with each other or another "character", their framing white
space will blot out whatever is behind them. It can partly be solved with
priorities, but even still with more than one pict floating at once it
still happens. Is there a way to make parts of an image transparent with
the pict related objects? Perhaps using alpha channel, or some other
technique? We have plenty of image tools(including photoshop), just can't
seem to figure out how to do it in max.
Thanks,
Andy

AFAIK, you can't do this with factory objects. Certain objects in the
MegaMAX collection (such as Pict_Button) allow you to draw pictures with
transparent copy mode. You might want to check out a demo version and
see if it will help you. Multiple pictures can be loaded into it as
PICT resources (using Res-Edit); pictures can be changed on the fly using=

the "pict_id" message. Using transparent copy mode, the white space
around irregularly shaped objects will be "transparent".
