Subject: call for new Max Audio tools

Dear Maxers,

is it possible for someone to write new objects for:
1. pitchtracking
2. Audio-delays
3. stereo audio input VU

I am very fond of SiLevel by Takahiko Suzuki, now I_d like to have
more. I was programming a lot on MAX/ISPW but Opcode Max and a
PowerBook is much more convinent for concerts (With low budget).
Delay would be a very basic Audio-Tool, like the Aiff-play now.

Pitchtracking could also be mangaged if SiLevel can be stereo, by
sending a signal through a highpass to channel one and through a
lowpass to channel 2. Comparing the levels gives You an idea about
the pitch, I think so. But as a matter of fact at the time we donnot
have a stereo input object, nor pitchtracking or audio-delay.
Any cat around ?

Hi Maxers,
Has anyone experienced the following : -
I have a bug free program. I save as a coll. I have a bug free collective. I
turn it into a stand alone app and now it has a bug. Is this maybe a
question
of timing ?
Very annoying. I mean, how can I de-bug the editable version if it is
working
perfectly ???

i've had a 1400 running happily with the MOTU Pocket Express, as well as
the active (pwr for the oscillator not from your serial port) MIDIman.

Dear Steve,
I have been using a 1400cs laptop since August with no problems,
even in performance situations....mine did not come with Midi manager so
OMS is required. I recently reinstalled MM/patchbay,etc. to run some older
software...TW

This sounds like Don Ritter's Orpheus, written for Amiga with a hardware
JPEG decoder. I saw a demo of this at ISEA95 and it was nifty. There was
no mention of MAX, but there was a proposal to port Orpehus to the Mac.

Does anyone closer to Montreal (Concordia University, actually) have any
further news? I've heard nothing.

I just finished using X<>Pose to play quicktime videos and picts via MIDI
during a production of Hair I directed. It worked extremely well overall.
There was one major limitation, however. X<>Pose does not work with many
(or possibly any) high-end video cards. I tried a couple of Radius cards
and a Miro card. In the end I had to recompress all my video in Cinepac
and just rely on a very fast processor, fast drive and lots of RAM. The
video was acceptable, but not nearly as smooth (fullscreen) as it was
with hardware compression. However, X<>Pose did a much better job with
both picts and QT than Max, and X<>Pose is very, very easy to work with.
And I understand that the developers (Akaos) are hard at work on a "pro"
version that will work with hardware compression.

And yes, X<>Pose and Max do working wonderfully together (communicating
via IAC).

Does anyone know if "modifiers" is available for 3.5? The version in my
distribution is not FAT, the set of FAT Ellison objects that I found did
not include modifiers.

thanks

Excuse me, it is really impossible for non English speaking people to
understand what you mean.

I agree with Peter Castine:

Subject: Apple event problem

I'm trying to send an apple event from Max to another application, and then
have the other application send a new apple event back to Max.
Unfortunately, the other app won't do its part until I bring it to the
foreground. In other words, I cause max to send the apple event, and
nothing happens so long as max remains in the foreground. As soon as I
bring the other app to the foreground, the new apple event is sent back to
max.

Has anyone experinced similar problems?

Notes:
(1) Overdrive is off.
(2) I get the same behavior with two different "other apps".
(3) Same behavior with Max 3.0 and Max 2.5.2.
(4) I'm pretty sure that this same patch was working for me a couple of
years ago. The only differences between now and then that I can think of
(other than a later version of Max) are (a) later version of MacOS (7.6.1),
and (b) OMS instead of Midi Manager (or whatever it was that I used to
use). Could it be that one of these differences is the culprit?

Subject: Max Object FTP Mirror in US

Hi friends,

I've mirrored the IRCAM Max Object ftpsite here in the US (on the west
coast).
This ought to make it somewhat easier for US-based people to get at the Max
Objects since connections to ftp.ircam.fr are often difficult. The URLs are:

http://www.employees.org/~max/mirror/IRCAM/
  or
ftp://ftp.employees.org/max/mirror/IRCAM/
(HTTP is the preferred access method - please use it if you can)

This is a read-only mirror, no uploads are accepted even though the incoming
directory is present. The mirroring server is located in San Jose, CA, USA
and
normally has good and very fast net connectivity. Hopefully people in the
area
will use it instead of the ircam server, thus saving the net and ircam from
lots of trans-continental traffic.

Questions/comments to me.

Enjoy,

Issac

PS - There is also the beginnings of a user-maintained FAQ page at
http://www.employees.org/~max/faq/faq.cgi
You can add your own entries to it, and edit the ones that are there.
Please let me know if you find this to be useful. I'd like to get some
moderators to keep the content fresh... more about that later perhaps.
