I'd like to thank everyone for all the responses to my inquiry. For your
info, David Bianciardi ( promises a soon to be released 1U
space MIDI to RS232 controller. This obviates having to deal with a serial
object and OMS fighting over the serial port, just send the machine a sysex
message. I'll look into all the DAT and CD models suggested and get back to
you when I can make the damn things work.

Download a copy of Richard Bleasdale's SAMSC software. There is a window
in this called 'capture' where it can list all the bytes coming into the
MIDI ports.
There is a link to a download for it from my web page.

If You do so let me know,'cause I am intrested in an harmonic
eartrainer that do functions and harmonic modulation.
So an harmonic music analysis would be the basis.
