Subject: ____HELP: How to 'clean up' menu items, window size in a
patchers?__

Sept 17, 1997

Hello,

I have a few open questions regarding how to implement
certain behavior in a Max patcher. My application consists
of a number of patcher windows, all open-able from a
the main patcher window which contains a menubar and
support objects:

1. I am trying to figure out how to create completely
   custom menu items using menubar; I still have some
   open issues:

   a. my menubar script includes 'open' and 'saveas' items
      in order to implement my own Open... and Save/Saveas...
      functions.

      Problem: I really want my own open item to be displayed
      at run-time as: "Open XYZ..." not "Open..." ; same for
      saveas. How can I tell menubar to do this?

   b. How can I tell menubar (or ??) to not display any
      "New" item ?

   c. How can I tell menubar (or ??) to not display any
      "Max Menus" item ?

   d. How can I tell menubar to display the "Close" item
      but not allow for closing the last open patcher?

   e. How can I tell menubar to not display the Windows/Max
      item?

2. How can I have Max not display the patcher window which
   contains the menubar - and instead, at run/lock-time - just
   display my custom menu items (#5) which when selected
   which are what I want to open my patchers?

   (ie - at the start of run/lock-time, *no* windows are
   displayed, just my custom menu items. Or, alternatively,
   at the start of run/lock-time, my custem menu are displayed
   along with one patcher window which is not the one
   containing the menubar.

3. How can I tell Max that at run/lock-time, a given patcher
   window cannot be resized larger than a certain size?;
   (or made smaller if possible).

Thanks in advance for any help/pointers on the above Q's
to me at:

Hi Everyone.

Yes it's newbie time. I was hoping someone out there could point in
the direction of controlling Motors with MAX street.
I am an animator wanting to use MAX to control small semi-robotic
devices. Still trying to decide on servo or stepper motors as to
suitability. I'm hoping to get a fair degree of motion control and
interactivity. ANY advice or info would be greatly appreciated.

thanks, regards and goodnight

Simply don't use the Open... and SaveAs... items. Specify your own, =

like this (fragment of menubar script):

#X apple About MyApp...;
#X closeitem;
#X file 2 Open XYZ.../o;
#X file 3 -;
#X file 4 Save As XYZ/s;

By the way, the manual and the help file are very good places to find =

this info :-)

See above.

>c. How can I tell menubar (or ??) to not display any
>     "Max Menus" item ?

Can't get rid of it in Max. It won't be there when you make an =

application, however.

>d. How can I tell menubar to display the "Close" item
> but not allow for closing the last open patcher?

Get Max 3.5.x, which allows you to compile the app with this feature. =

Not possible in 3.0.

> e. How can I tell menubar to not display the Windows/Max
>      item?

Get Max 3.5.x, which allows you to turn the "Max" item off. It is not =

possible in anyway to remove the windows menu. I've spent much time =

trying.

There are ways to open a patcher window off screen, but I don't remember
them offhand. Roland Hemming I believe could answer that one...

Either get Max 3.5.x which allows windows to be made without scroll =

bars, or checkout a 3rd party object from Steve Ellison: thiswindow, =

which does much of the same.

Hello there-

I'm new to this list and want to know if anyone knows about the new sound
technology LIQUID AUDIO? I was wondering how people compare it to REAL
AUDIO? I just came across it, they are previewing the technology this week
with a Duran Duran single, and the downloadable version will be available
next Tuesday.

The interesting thing about it is it gives copyrite protection to the
artist through digital watermarking,- which is a first. The URL to check
it out is,

Liquid Audio:  http://www.liquidaudio.com
Duran Duran: http://www.hollywoodandvine.com/duranduran/

Thank you.
