The timeline doesn't go in reverse. It's a difficult problem to
make it do so, and almost any way I would decide to do it will be
unacceptable to someone. For example, suppose you have a messenger
event whose length is the duration of a MIDI note, and you've
made an action patch in which the beginning trigger of a tiCmd
plays the note-on and the end trigger plays the note-off. If
the track was played so that when going in reverse and time
encountered the right edge of the messenger going backwards, it
triggered the "end" for the tiCmd, the note-offs would be played
before the note-ons. But another patch might use the messenger
start and end triggers in a way where this implementation what
exactly what was wanted. Since the timeline has no idea what
its action patches are actually doing with the events it contains,
it doesn't know how sensitive to order those patches are. If
someone has a proposal to define how reversing time would work that
will make everyone happy, I'm all ears.

The flux capacitor will be bundled with MAX 5.0.

Subject: ? [PICT] changeable arguement

Dear Maxadicts,

I've completed a patch which draws upon 192 small PICT files. Through
chance procedures, it only need display three of these on screen at any one
time. At the moment, I have a [PICT] object for each potential PICT file -
which needless to say increases memory requirements, and seems a long way
round the problem.

Qu: is there any way for a single [PICT] object to recieve a changeable
file name, (maybe from a [Coll] object for example) rather than a
specific file ?

If not, can anyone suggest an alternative method ? Thank you.

Gregg Wagstaff.

Your point? Maybe that it would be nice if Max' librarian functions were
easier to use?

(In truth, I haven't looked at them since 2.5.2, when I decided not to
develop a K1000 librarian in Max. Apologies to David Z. if things have
gotten easier to use since then. If they haven't, maybe that's something to
do for 3.6 that would make us stodgy old stick-in-the-muds bite the bullet
and upgrade. Or maybe not.-)

How odd. I got in there three days ago on anonymous ftp (though I had to go
to school to do it--at home, I'm a dumb terminal!).
