Once again in regard to the PB 5300, use Speed Doubler, pare down your
extensions with any version of MAX and it works great. I have not removed
Speed Doubler with MAX 3.5 PPC but I notice it runs very well even with all
the extensions loaded. Yes, if I hadn't fallen into the 5300 trap I would
have another laptop but I run very big patches in live performance with
great
success with this machine.

Hi Jem,

I'am not sure if I understood Your problem with counter, but I
solved all mine by using autocount, which can be found on the IRCAM
CD if You are in the usergroup and maybe on the ircam public server.

 all the best !

Subject: High speed Serial PCI boards & MAX

Hi all maxers,

I have a problem...

I need for my installation "THE ROOM OF DESIRES" four serial ports in MAX
3.5 (MAX piloted with RS 232C connections: 2 Videodisc players, 1 Video
mixer - digital effects and MIDI...).

I would like to buy High speed Serial PCI board KEYSPAN SX-2 or KEYSPAN
SX-4 or KEYSPAN Smart SERIAL 6 ( providing 2 or 4 or 6 additional serial
ports and all available in France - AWARE distr.),
 BUT:

1) I don't know if MAX 3.5 recognize all this new serial ports with this
boards
( in "old" version of the "serial" object it was possible with the NuBus
GreenCard)

2) I don't know if MAX 3.5 is able to work correctly with 4 or 6 ports in
the same time ( on PowerMac 8 600)

Problem is, that I work with Sony Videodisc Players and like David ROKEBY (
2 weeks ago?: "This ACK/NACK protocol makes these players a real pain to
use.." etc.) talk about, it works in special way..

If I need to see all the numbers of the frames of videodisc in MAX, the
serial port with this Sony connexion is really very busy.

Maybe you know, David, where is solution for my Serial PCI boards?

If somebody have an experience with this, write me please...

Pavel
