MAXplay makes a search path out of every subdirectory of the folder
containing the MAXplay application, not those listed in Max's
File Preferences dialog. Make sure that MAXplay is in a folder that
contains the folders containing your externals.

i asked about Max for Windows and got this answer:

This is probably something that even Zeus himself does not know.

Wouldn't it be nice, though.

******************* A Note From Uncle Max **********************
I've put up a very ugly little page that gives the basic information I'm
looking for. I don't know if it's a Max Digest "no-no" but I wouldn't be
at all surprised if I posted this information again (later in the week).
If this IS a heinous act, I am operating under the hopes that someone
will forewarn me about this fact.

I want to thank all the people who have submitted again. The rest of you
I'm quite sure will be typing off a quick submission in the next couple
of days, and I thank you for that in advance.
